Windsor Locks Library History Group - A Hidden Treasure

Did you know that Windsor Locks Public Library has its own History Group dedicated to exploring and sharing our town's rich and varied past?  Bill Fournier, who founded the group several years ago, has long been an active participant in preserving local history, artifacts, and the habitats of the Connecticut River Valley.  He is also one of the driving forces behind Windsor Locks's annual Heritage Week, which is held each May.
.

Under Bill's leadership, the library's History Group has hosted or presented programs on such topics as the Windsor Locks Canal, the local eagle population, development of various manufacturing industries in Connecticut, the JFK Assassination, and preservation of the Connecticut River.  The group also hosts annual Show-and-Tell programs where the public is invited to bring and share personal artifacts, pictures, and stories related to Windsor Locks's past.

The Windsor Locks Library History Group's next program, on Wednesday, March 29 at 6:30 PM, will be Eagles in Connecticut: The Return of an Icon, featuring a presentation by CT DEEP wildlife biologist Brian Hess.

Visit WindsorLocksHistory.org, a Project of Windsor Locks Library, and click on Windsor Locks Library History Group to enjoy the incredible photographs of Windsor Locks's own (imported from Hoboken, NJ) Jerry Dougherty.  Jerry has created a rich collection of pictures of notable events, historical documents, and local places (including towns all over Connecticut and in other states) along with many digitized books and articles that are available for all to peruse and enjoy.  If you haven't checked them out yet, you don't know what you've been missing.  Now might be a good time to find out!
