FOR MYSTERY LOVERS!

Did you know that our mystery book club that has been running now for 15 years here at Windsor Locks Public Library?  The Christie Capers meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. We read traditional mysteries (in the tradition of Agatha Christie) of all sorts, including police procedurals, cozies, and historicals.  For those of you not familiar with the term "cozies," these are murder mysteries set in small towns or villages, featuring likable characters, and with little violence or gore.  They usually have an amateur sleuth, perhaps with an interesting profession (like Laura Bradford's PR expert Toby Tobias or Lucy Burdette's Key West Food Critic, Hayley Snow), who manages to get deeply involved in the police investigation and solve the crime.  Cozies can also feature police officers (like M.C. Beaton's Hamish MacBeth) or working detectives or PI's, (like M.C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin).  At Christie Capers we like to read any traditional mystery we can get our hands on!

On August 15 we will be welcoming author Lucy Burdette to discuss her new mystery, Death on the Menu.  We usually host 2-3 mystery authors per year, which is a fun bonus.  The rest of the time we read and discuss one mystery each month.  We have annual themes that run from September to August.  Our most recent theme was "Detecting Duos" and included mysteries featuring such teams as Nick and Nora Charles, Holmes and Watson, and even a human-robot team in a Sci-Fi mystery selection by Isaac Asimov!  Starting in September we will be reading mysteries featuring women sleuths with interesting and sometimes unusual professions.  Here is our upcoming list of selections:

If you are looking for a laid-back, friendly, active book club and you like mysteries, consider joining the Christie Capers.  Our membership over the years has varied between 4 and 24 people (but we are usually somewhere around 10 or 12 members), so there is always room for a few more!  Check our website (click on the Book Clubs icon on the left side of the home page or contact adult services librarian Eileen Pearce at 860-627-1495 for more information.
